Thehouseofruthanne Story.
My older brother saved me from being set to flames when I was 7 years old 1945 when the ties from my feed sac dress fell onto open heater elements causing them to catch fire. Wasn't for the quick reactions of my brother Nicholas! Who knows!. (Can you imagine a 7 year old girl, in this time wearing feed sac dresses with waist ties?)
Story #2

My ancestors settled here. This is where I was born.
Connellsville Pa though holds a memory of climbing mountains, going bare foot, snow and riding horses.
Cold winter mornings my brothers, sister and I would awake to the aroma of bacon frying in the pan, crackling of eggs being dropped with care into hot drippings, Pan cakes & Maple syrup.
This gave us reason to pull our self out of cozy bed's. Quickly we snatched up school clothes kept warm through the night from under our mattress.
Then scurry to the only warm room in our house the kitchen. Clamoring about the wood stove, attempting to dress for the long cold walk to school. When!
"Stomp-stomp-stomp," of snowy boots on frozen porch. Kitchen door swings wide, gusty freezing air flooded the warm space. Followed by my father's arms full of fire wood.
He would rub his hand's  and say "yesssss-er-reeeeee-bob-it's cold out there.

This is my life and times while in this body on this earth until death do I part,  when reincarnation will probably bring me back for another turn in Hell because I am not a saint. Maybe if I have the capacity to do the right thing and stay out of trouble  then and only then maybe I will be reborn to another place a special place for all eternity never to experience hell again.
Hum!
Born in the USA

Bayers Heroin

A bottle of Bayer's heroin.

Between 1890 and 1910 heroin was sold as a non-addictive substitute for morphine.
It was also used to treat children with strong cough.

Coca Wine

Metcalf Coca Wine was one of a huge variety of wines with cocaine on the market.
Everybody used to say that it would make you happy and it would also work as a medicinal treatment.

Mariani wine

Mariani wine (1875) was the most famous Coca wine of it's time.
Pope Leo XIII used to carry one bottle with him all the time.
He awarded Angelo Mariani (the producer) with a Vatican gold medal.

Maltine

Produced by Maltine Manufacturing Company of New York.

It was suggested that you
should take a full glass with or after every meal...

Children should take half a glass.

A paper weight:

A paper weight promoting C.F. Boehringer & Soehne ( Mannheim , Germany ).
They were proud of being the biggest producers in the world of products containing
Quinine and Cocaine.

Opium for Asthma:

Cocaine tablets (1900)

All stage actors, singers teachers and preachers had to have them for a maximum performance.
Great to "smooth" the voice.

Cocaine drops for toothache

Very popular for children in 1885.

Not only did they relieve the pain, they made the children happy!

Opium for new-borns

I'm sure this would make them sleep well (not only the Opium, but 46% alcohol!)

No wonder they were called The Good Old Days!!

NOW WE KNOW!
